How kids can stay safe online, protect their privacy, and get help 

Free online learning about  internet safety for children 

Recommended for all primary school year levels. Maximum 50 students per session.

Students will learn:

  • everyone has the right to feel safe at all times
  • what online dangers are
  • "gut feelings" for safety
  • protective strategies for online safety ("OK activity")
  • all about the eSafety website at eSafety.gov.au

Additional learning intentions for Grades 0-3:

  • safe passwords and protecting personal information
  • online stranger safety
  • how kids can identify inappropriate and unsafe websites

Additional learning intentions for Grades 4-6:

  • protecting personal information using privacy settings
  • the importance of password safety
  • how to identify unsafe websites and phishing/online scams

Our counsellors personalise the session based on the needs of your class.
Here is an example of how a session may run.

 

Introduction (5 mins):

  • Interactive ice-breaker
  • Brief summary of Kids Helpline

Presentation (30 mins)

  • Presentation of key content in your chosen topic/session, including coping strategies & support options
  • Interactive learning activities (group work, video watching, games, role playing, etc.)
  • Practical application of key strategies
  • Movement/interactive breaks included as needed

Conclusion (5-10 mins)

  • Summary of session
  • Group reflection
  • Questions & answers
